Some sass in my fras

Word of the Week

Spitzenfreude—joy at the governor’s suffering. From Slate.

“Better buckle up, Mabel, and pass the beef jerky. This one’s gonna be a nailbiter.”

I wonder if they meant probable. Either way, I wouldn’t drive fast.

Or, maybe there really isn’t a rest stop for another 154 miles.

Send one to me and I’ll send one to you

Have you seen these e-cards from someecards? I am addicted to this site. Take a look, but only if you have more than five minutes to waste spare when the kids aren’t around, unless they’re too young to read. If you blush easily, this is fair warning that the writing is not all PG. But it is biting and funny.

Quote of the Day

“I really can’t come to your party, Mrs. Parker, I can’t bear fools.”

That’s strange. Your mother could.

–Dorothy Parker

I’m not sure which is funnier, the actual “accidents prohibited” sign, or your rest stop comment. Either way, I laughed out loud.

LOVE the Dorothy Parker quote. Don’t remember reading that one in the past.

I think I’ve been on that road before. Or one exactly like it. (I don’t remember the sign.) I have a somewhat adventuresome spirit, but I have vowed to never travel that road again. At least in daylight!

Slow Panic March 14, 2008 at 5:39 am

love the sign. and the Spitzenfruede. that guy is an idiot.

Mrs. Chili March 14, 2008 at 6:07 am

That’s some funny stuff, Jennifer. Thanks for a good start to my day!

Now that’s some sharp wit! Love the Starbucks one best! (Okay, after Dorothy, of course)

Oh just the best medicine .. laughter .. between coughs .. I have always adored Ms Parker’s nasty tongue…..

cce March 14, 2008 at 11:34 am

Those are great e-cards. Thanks for the find!

I’m back to say my personal favorite e card is,
“I’ve put more thought into my Halloween costume than my career.”

flutter March 14, 2008 at 11:58 am

Oh how I love me some Dorothy Parker!

So dude, lunch?

CrazyCath March 14, 2008 at 12:29 pm

Funny! Again. I like the idea of prohibiting accidents. What happens if you have one? You go to jail then hospital? lol

the mama bird diaries March 14, 2008 at 12:32 pm

The Starbucks card is hilarious.

And that sign… oh my gosh… too funny.

Suzanne March 14, 2008 at 1:30 pm

Love the Dorothy Parker quote, and the somecards, you’re right, they’re naughty….where do you find this stuff???

Lisa March 14, 2008 at 2:32 pm

The Starbucks one is priceless! Because I am embarrassed by so many orders I hear (my favorite–fat free mocha latte WITH extra whip)
Agree with Suzanne–where do you find this stuff?!

andi March 14, 2008 at 3:27 pm

Oh, how I heart someecards. I spend way too much time there. Did you see the lent cards? Or the special Academy Awards cards? Classic stuff.

Jennifer March 14, 2008 at 7:12 pm

I have super-secret sources. (And some mad alliterative skills, too, it seems.)

No, I found the sign while I was looking for a “scenic route” sign in Photobucket.

And I saw one of the cards featured in a magazine (one of the tamer cards, ahead of Valentine’s Day).

And now I’ve given away all my powers. Use them for good.

Tootsie Farklepants March 14, 2008 at 7:20 pm

The Starbucks one cracked me up!

Sandy (Momisodes) March 14, 2008 at 7:26 pm

Oh geez! That sign is scary…it looks like “are prohibited” was added in :S
I love those someecards!

Coco March 14, 2008 at 7:35 pm

You has MAD SKILLZ, Jennifer. 😉

This stuff reminds me of Ashleigh Brilliant. Love him.

My current fave is : “I try to talk to animals, but it’s no use. Their minds are usually made up.”

Deb March 14, 2008 at 8:14 pm

Not 30 minutes ago, I was talking to my brother about someecards….

The creative director at his ad agency started it on a whim and is now able to leave his 6-figure salary b/c the site took off…

Good for him!

JCK March 15, 2008 at 12:33 am

I ADORE Dorothy Parker and her witticisms. Oh, and I have bookmarked that ecard site. It is hysterical and I quickly left due to fears I would be there for HOURS.

One of my favorite stupid roadside signs says “Do not pass when opposing traffic is present.”
