Guess who fluttered by…

by Jennifer on April 13, 2008

Chompie\'s sandwichesHey, guess who I had lunch with today? …The lovely Christine, or flutter, as you may know her.

We happen to live no more than two or three stone’s throws from each other, and we’ve been trying to make plans to get together over the last few weeks. My lack of an available babysitter has played into the delay, so yesterday we agreed that we should go ahead and get together, with my children in tow.

I made all sorts of elaborate plans for what to bring so Girl and Boy would entertain themselves and not antagonize each other throughout the meal. But as it turned out, my son was invited to a friend’s house at the last minute (yay!), and just the Girl and I went to meet Christine.

(By the way, when I was getting ready at home, I realized that I have no cute spring tops or shoes. Or pants. Zip. None. Help. Oh, and it was 93 degrees here today.)

We met at Chompie’s, which is a great New York style deli, restaurant and bakery in Scottsdale. When Christine walked in, I knew immediately that I would feel comfortable with her. She’s warm and nice and smart and interesting, exactly as you might imagine, right down to the lovely red lipstick.

(Did you all know that she will be speaking at BlogHer in San Francisco? Could be that I’m the last to know this, but now I really really wish I were going.)

And now, the Girl is her biggest fan.

During lunch, Girl warmed to her and chattered away about Webkinz (her favorite topic these days). On our way out, Christine bought her a cupcake from the bakery, which was really just icing on the cupcake, at that point.

As Girl and I walked to our car, Girl looked up at me and said, “I like her.”

“Well, I think she likes you, too.”

Girl was quiet for a moment, then added, “I love her.”

Endorsements don’t get any sweeter than that.

How cool that you met Flutter! Wow…

Ok, so can you please just come to Blogher?

Well if GIRL loves her, then everyone must love her! (Of course I already thought I did from the blog, but Girl’s endorsement is the icing on MY cupcake!) (Oh, and the red lipstick.)

Does anyone ever not like someone in real life that they like in the blogosphere? It hasn’t happened to me yet.

As if I needed further proof that it was hotter than h**l in San Diego today, we have the same temp as Scottsdale!

I was just wondering to myself what in the world I wore last spring, because I sure cannot find it in my closet…

Awww that is wonderful! It must be great to meet a fellow blogger you touch base with. I so wish we were in the same country – I’d love to meet you. And girl if she endorses like that! (I may steal girl – this happens with my friend’s daughter occasionally! lol)

That is such a lovely simple post but so full of relaxing fun thoughts. Thanks.

PS – Love the site revamp. It is brilliant (I caught up on your other post about it but haven’t commented everywhere. It’s now after 4am here and I am nearly through catching up on blogs! Is that sad or what? Thank heaven for school holidays and tired kids.)

I’ve been slowly and secretly buying spring clothes. Don’t tell my husband.

I wish I were going to Blogher too.

Spring clothes? Spring? What’s Spring? Sp-uh-rrrrr-ing. Am I saying it right?

Kidding, it was actually pretty gorgeous here this weekend.

On another note, how fun to meet a bloggy friend. And how lucky that Girl liked Flutter too. What a disaster your first meeting would have been if Girl had sat sullenly with her arms crossed for the whole lunch. (I’m not suggesting this is something Girl would do, but just that it would have been awkward).

Have a wonderful week…

ps – While I’m way down here at the bottom of this page I can’t help but notice your sitemeter. I have to say I’m a bit jealous. Why is it that your number of visitors seems to grow exponentially compared to mine?!?

It’s so lovely to meet in the real world and feel and the same love and admiration you’ve established as blog pals. I’m jealous. I’m glad for you two (three, inlcuding the girl). And now I wish I was going to BlogHer!

I’m looking forward to meeting more of my blogging friends face-to-face. I managed to meet three of them a few weekends ago, and it was nothing but 100% positive. I’m working on a post about how odd it is to meet someone for the first time, but to already be close friends…..

How cool is that. What a fun day. I am a tad jealous…

I have a little something for you at my place.

Your blog looks amazing. Cynthia is mine next.

I’m jealous too. Of flutter, to be having lunch with you. Oh woe.

What fun! And much better with only the Girl to enjoy, right? I’m a little jealous of anyone who has a proper “Ladies’ Luncheon” at a place that doesn’t serve up food wrapped in foil and presented on plastic trays…

Now that’s a lunch I could crash – sounds like such fun.

(Now excuse me while I pout over Blogher. I just can’t see swinging it, but by golly, Christine makes me want to go all the more.)

Um. I meant to comment here! Not your Art Gallery…
I feel your pain on having no cute Spring clothes / shoes! We should go shopping! I love Scottsdale Fashion Square… 😀
Ps. have you heard from Meg?

How awesome for everyone. Who doesn’t love cupcakes? And flutter?

That sly little Flutter never mentioned publicly that she’d be speaking at Blogher (did she?) Off to kiss my tickets now. And if you’d like weather that will apparently never ever require spring clothing, Chicago is the place for you.

How cool is that? Luncheon with Miss Flutter sounds divine – I am very jealous! Of course your daughter loves Flutter – she is so very lovable!

Blogher…sigh…I’m sure Flutter will be wonderful, dang it!
